What a busy day, I picked more of my produce. Below are some gourds I picked, I love these and will plant more next year.

Below are some of the cantalope I picked today, I was happy with the harvest. I only wish they tasted a little sweeter.

Here is a picture of most of the squash and pumpkins I picked today. The light green ones are pumpkins. I love them they usually have a light green stripe on them and are very smooth.

What my Mother would call the last rose of Summer. This is about the only flower I have after a very hard freeze last night.

Okay, why do I have a picture of a plum? I had a volunteer tree growing right in the middle of my flower garden. I thought it might be a Stanley Plum Tree, but it didn't ever blossom or have plums on it. So I just waited. I was tempted to just cut it down, cause it shades lots of flowers in the area. It is about 10 feet tall. This year I happen to notice it had a few green things on it. It looked like round plums, but I wasn't sure. Well, a few days ago, I noticed the 'plums' were getting ripe and I picked one. It is a wonderful sweet tasting plum, I dare say better than the Stanley Plum. Anyway, now I have to move the tree-not chop it down. I will look forward to many more sweet plums from that tree.

I know it's late, but I salvaged some small ears of corn tonight. It is a little old, and kind of small, but good just the same. I froze it on the cob and looking forward to trying some this week.

The moon was very pretty tonight. I love this setting. It looks like Fall is here, reality sets in that Summer is really gone.

I remember something my Mother used to say after a busy Summer and Fall. "I'm going to enjoy my Winters more." After this week and how full it was with harvesting crops and canning vegetables. I truly understand what She meant. I will use this Winter to reflect on this year and to plan for a better next year.

Greenhouse - Cold Frame

I planted my greenhouse garden today.
As you can tell by the photographs, I did kind of a square foot garden.
I planted four types of carrots, five types of radishes,
seed onions and 66 onion sets and several other things.
I couldn't believe how much I could plant in a 3' X 4' area.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks again Bob and Joan for this cool greenhouse.

Green Greenhouse

I told my friend Joan and Bob Daniels that I was going to make a cold frame to try to grow some radishes, lettuce and onions. Well a knock came at the door and they surprised me with this super great greenhouse, that Bob made.

As you can see, it has a plastic window, and it is big enough to plant anything I want.
I can put a heater in it and grow things all year round if I want.

Bob is showing how the door works and how spacious it is.
It is about 6' X 4' and 6" deep. I can't wait to try it !!!!!

Here is a good shot of the inside. Radishes anyone?
It got 96 degrees inside today.
If it is 45 degrees outside with the sun out, it gets 136 degrees inside.

If you want Bob to build you one of these, let me know and I will get you in touch with him.
It is built so well, you can get a jump-start on the Summer.

SPRING FLOWERS ???

I tried planting a few (900) flowers. Most of them are my Mother's old flower seeds, some from the 1950's. I am planting them to see if the seed is still good. Some are flowers I would like to plant in about 6 weeks. I don't know if they will grow, I will let you know. I am growing them without lights, and without heat. I am hoping for the best.

Tulips and Lilies NOW !!!

Here is the flower bed on the east side of my house. Doesn't look like much huh?
But with a closer look, yes that's right, tulips coming up yes today February 11. Mom always told me that they come up in February but I am always excited to see them. Mother Nature always knows when they should come up. UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!

Here is a closeup of some Lilies, I don't understand how they can come up when it is so cold. They are so fragile, yet can stand temperatures well below freezing.
